What We Offer
Consultative Peer Review: KYCAN, under contract with the State, coordinates independent consultative peer reviews of the 14 Community Mental Health Centers by teams of consumers, friends, family members, and providers . Using focus groups, peer interviews with the CSP staff, the review teams develop consultative summary reports that may be used by all stakeholders to enhance and effect improvements in Kentucky's mental health system of care for consumers and their families.
Peer Advocacy & Olmstead Support: Consumer Advocates are provided in District 6 for those hospitalized on Mental Inquest Warrants (MIW's). Advocates insure that the basic needs of these consumers are met and may serve as a link to the consumers families and communities. They also work as consultants in other regions. Olmstead Peer Support Staff serve consumers who are hospitalized or at risk of hospitalization, and wish to live in the least restrictive environment approved by their treatment teams.
W.R.A.P.: Wellness Recovery Action Plan, KYCAN uses Mary Ellen Copeland's W.R.A.P. program in workshops that teach consumers how to identify, monitor, modify and even eliminate the symptoms of their illnesses. These workshops include the development of "Individualized Mental Health Crisis Plans" that outline the responses consumers want from supporters when their illnesses make it impossible for them to make appropriate decisions for themselves. They are also given an opportunity to complete and Advance Directive for Mental Health Treatment (ADMHT).

B.R.I.D.G.E.S. (Building Recovery of Individual Dreams and Goals through Education and Support.) Under this we provide an education program that provides detailed information on a variety of psychiatric disorders and ways to cope with the challenges of living with mental illness. Consumers have expertise and abilities ( learned from their own illness ) that allow them to help each other in ways that clinical providers cannot. Learning from each other empowers us with the tools to build our own bridges of recovery. If you would like to schedule a training in your area please call the office.
Voter's Education. A program sponsored in collaboration with Protection and Advocacy. It encourages consumers to participate in the voting process at the local, state and national level. Consumers are trained as Voting Educators to bring information about voting and also disability/employment issues. If you are interested in becoming a Voter Educator or having a Voter Educator speak to your group, please call the office.
CIT (Crisis Intervention Training) Program Training. This is a program for law enforcement, mental health professionals, mental health consumers and their family members and advocates. The goal of the program is to help persons with mental disorders access medical treatment rather than placing them in the criminal justice system for illness-related behaviors. We present information useful for the attendees of the training when it comes to dealing with people who have mental illness.
